Visually, There Are Similarities With The Locations Of Presidential Election Voters In Turkiye And In The United States.

AKP Orange Aligns With Republican Red.

CHP Red Aligns With Democrat Blue.

On 14 May 2023, the Republic of Turkiye held a presidential election (five-year term) and elections (five-year terms) for the 600-member Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkiye.  There are eighty-one (81) voting provinces in the Republic of Turkiye.

With neither presidential candidate receiving 50% plus one, there is a runoff scheduled for 28 May 2023.  The results for the Grand National Assembly remain intact, with the AKP-led alliance receiving the majority of votes, thus controlling the legislative branch for the next five years.

For the Presidential Election, reviewing the map of Turkiye with the areas of the country won by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkiye (2014- ), and his opponent Mr. Kemal Kilicdaroglu, there is visual connectivity with the Presidential Election map of the United States of America for 2020, 2016, and 2012.

Mr. Erdogan’s victories are in ORANGE.  Mr. Kilicdaroglu’s victories are in RED.

If the 2020, 2016, and 2012 United States presidential election results maps are reshaped- stretched a bit to more resemble Turkiye and the 2023 Turkiye presidential election map is reshaped- stretched a bit to more resemble the United States, there appear similarities as to the locations of voters for the candidates, parties, and party alliances.

  • President Erdogan won the center heartland along with the north and a portion of the south.

  • Mr. Kilicdaroglu won the east, the west along with portions of the south.

  • In 2012, 2016, and 2020, the United States Republican Party presidential nominee generally won the heartland, the south, and portions of the mid-west.

  • In 2012, 2016, and 2020, the United States Democratic Party presidential nominee generally won the east and west, and portions of the upper mid-west.

President Erdogan’s locations of support in Turkiye somewhat mimicked the locations of Republican Party presidential nominee support in the United States and Kemal Kilicdaroglu’s locations of support in Turkiye somewhat mimicked the locations of Democratic Party presidential nominee support in the United States.

Does the data suggest that President Erdogan is a Republican and Mr. Kilicdaroglu is a Democrat?

No conclusions.

Just leaving the observations out there…. In the political universe.
