Most Relieved Head Of State Not In Davos At The WEF?  President Erdogan Of Turkiye

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkiye (2014- ), must be a very relieved head of state.  Absence can demonstrate wisdom.

The 2026 NATO Leaders’ Summit is scheduled for 7 July 2026 and 8 July 2026 in Ankara, Turkiye.  The heads of state and heads of government will meet at the Presidential Complex.

  • NATO: United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Albania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, Spain, Turkiye, Latvia, and North Macedonia, Sweden.

With the self-governing territory of Greenland within the Kingdom of Denmark this week replacing Ukraine as the subject which was to have been central to head of state and head of government statements and meetings at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, President Erdogan has escaped potential direct or indirect confrontation and/or disagreement with Donald Trump, President of the United States (2017-2021 and 2025-2029).

Specifically, President Erdogan will not be asked to publicly provide an opinion about the desire by the government of the United States to control (absorb, lease, own, seize) Greenland and he will not be asked to publicly provide an opinion as to if Greenland should be on the official agenda for the 2026 NATO Leaders’ Summit

President Erdogan may use the moments away from the WEF to continue engagement and re-engagement with Armenia, a country along with Azerbaijan which is a focus of President Trump.   On 11 March 2026, Istanbul, Turkiye-based Turkish Airlines (an Airborne Embassy) will commence daily non-stop services from Istanbul Havalimani (IST) to Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) in Yerevan.  That is the type of performative and visible and practical decision-making appealing to President Trump.

Mark Rutte, Secretary-General of NATO (2024- ), who will attend the WEF, will be tasked with answering questions that would have been directed to President Erdogan.

This provides President Erdogan with listening to who-says-what before having to weigh-in from the perspective of the NATO member with the second-largest military presence in NATO.

The primary question for the twenty-seven country members of the Brussels, Belgium-based European Union (EU) and for the thirty-two country members of the Brussels, Belgium-based North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is what level of commercial, economic, financial, military, political, and social pain for their respective constituents, their taxpayers, their voters, are they prepared to impose to defend the status quo relating to Greenland?

  • EU: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.

The most recent moment where elected leadership and appointed leadership within the EU and NATO embraced decisions that imposed hardships upon their collective 450 million citizens (not including the United States) was in 2022 when there was implemented an abrupt change to exports to the Russian Federation and imports from the Russian Federation.
